Alexis Ohanian already has a background in sports investment because of Angel City FC, the women’s football team. And since his daughter Olympia takes golf lessons, it only brought him closer to the sport for the first time. But what actually made him decide that TGL was the way to go was a phone call from a long-time friend, and golf legend, Tiger Woods.
Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian got convinced to invest in TGL due to Tiger Woods
Just last month the team franchises for the Los Angeles Golf Club have been awarded and it went to this dynamic trio of the Williams sisters and Alexis. Alexis mentioned that before his daughter started taking golf lessons, he was completely ignorant about this sport and had no clue about it.
However, after he got a call from his long-time friend and legendary golf player, Tiger Woods about a pitch related to TGL. It was this phone that made him switch his mind to use his tech mindset to shrink down golf into smaller clips so people can watch it easily and this will also make these clips more shareable and bring more audience to the sport.
In an interview with Financial Times, he shared his approach to the same. He said, “For the first time ever, you’re going to get to see these crucial moments. These moments will feel spectacular for a casual fan just scrolling through their feed thinking ‘Wow this is a lot more fun than I thought golf was’.”

He mentioned in the interview that he wants to follow into something that resonates with the idea of the Netflix series Drive to Survive which is based on the profile of F1 in the United States. Further, he also wishes to build communities with sports fanbases in golf too.
