Golf is one sport that is currently experiencing many changes. After the merger of the PGA and LIV Golf, Tiger Woods came up with the TGL, which will be the first golf tournament that will combine technology and live action in the matches. There are six teams that have seen a plethora of investors. Some of the investors in the sport are Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams. Ohanian is working in overdrive to ensure his team, L.A. Golf Club, prevails as one of his colleagues reveals the involvement of the business magnate. 

When the PGA decided to merge with LIV Golf, Tiger Woods was not happy. While their debate heated up, many asked Ohanian which side he would take. The Reddit co-founder decided to side with the golfing legend as he invested in the TGL over LIV.

Serena Williams’ husband is heavily involved with his team

January 2024 will see an entirely different form of golf taking place. Along with the PGA-LIV Tour, TGL is a golf tournament that combines digital tech and live-action sports. Currently, six teams will play in the tournament over a two-hour competition. Alexis Ohanian invested heavily in the league and owns the L.A. Golf Club.

The Reddit co-founder is quite passionate about this venture and wants to keep a small executive team to ensure proper communication. Hubman further hopes that Ohanian’s knowledge in working with Angel City F.C. can translate to the management of their team. He said, “Trying to find not just the brands for sponsorship revenue but value ad brand partners. It could be a mix of both. There will be a mix of national brands, but those that can enhance the experience. They can make the clubhouse more interesting and innovative. On the local side, we’ll have some smaller impact partners and local sponsors. We’re going to take some learnings from Angel City and give back to the community.”

To make sure the inner workings of the club proceed smoothly, he hired a former executive of Reddit, Neal Hubman. He now works as the president of the club and revealed the involvement of Ohanian. In an interview with Sporting Business Journal, Hubman said that Ohanian is as hands-on as he needs to be.
