Having followed basketball in the days of Shaquille O’Neal, Ohanian is a huge fan of the 4x NBA championship winner, and laments how today’s generation has no idea of his greatness. 

Recently, Alexis Ohanian took to Instagram to reflect his admiration for this 52-year-old basketball legend. He spoke about how mindblowing the 1999–2000 MVP award winner was at his peak, especially when leading the charge in LA!

Shaquille O’Neal, the second largest shareholder in Authentic Brands Group, recently congratulated his business partners through an Instagram post for signing a new deal. He wrote, “Congrats @weareauthentic @jamiejsalter and @minute_media on the new publishing deal for @sportsillustrated. Big things coming!” The post featured the front cover of Sports Illustrated from 1992, in which Shaquille O’Neal was seen dunking on the basketball court. And Alexis Ohanian took the opportunity to share it on his own Instagram.

Serena Williams’ husband shared that post on his Instagram stories and wrote, “Iconic. Kids today have no idea how Shaquille O’Neal dominated“. A few days ago, Ohanian expressed his congrats to O’Neal’s daughter, Me’Arah for her selection in the 2024 McDonald’s All-American team. On seeing the 17YO following in the footsteps of her father, Serena Williams’ husband shared a clip of the NBA legend presenting his daughter with her jersey and wrote,”#GirlDad @SHAQ.” in the captions.

Earlier this year, Alexis Ohanian had the chance to view O’Neal’s docuseries. He was absolutely blown away by the documentary and expressed his excitement on social media. He wrote, “Loving this @SHAQ series on Hulu. Diesel absolutely was 1 of 1 and so many lessons in here about channelling motivation, competitiveness, and drive.“

Two years ago, Alexis Ohanian had attended a game between Milwaukee Buck and Dallas Mavericks. In that match, the Bucks had edged past the Mavericks by 106-105, and Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 28 points in that match. Ohanian was absolutely ecstatic to see his incredible performance on the court that day.

He later on revealed his admiration for Antetokounmpo and his elder brother, stating, “Giannis Antetokounmpo + Thanasis Antetokounmpo are my guys.” Serena Williams’ husband had even hailed the winning attitude and mindset of the NBA star. He said, “It’s a mindset. Y’all need to be following my guy @giannis_an34 even if you don’t follow basketball.“
