To commemorate her contribution both in and outside of the court, she is set to be awarded the Jackie Robinson Sports Award at the NAACP Image Awards this weekend.

As reported by Good Morning Tennis, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson had nothing but bountiful praises for the ‘Queen of the Court’. He stated, “Serena Williams is the quintessential example of Black excellence.”

Furthermore, he added, “From her record-breaking wins on the tennis court to her business acumen to her philanthropic endeavors, she has set the bar for athletes everywhere.”

The prestigious award is a recognition of her persistent efforts to not just better herself, but also the lives of people around her. It is given to sporting individuals who have played a pivotal role in impacting both in and outside their sport.

How does Williams feel about her after-retirement life? 

Dominating the court for more than two decades gave her not just the memories, but also 23 Grand Slam titles. Moreover, outside the court, her work via her Capital Investment firm, Serena Ventures, has given a fighting chance for young entrepreneurs and business founders from marginalized communities to succeed.

In an interview with CBS Mornings, she stated she feels emotional when she looks back at her old pictures of championships which make her reminisce about the good old days.
