Serena Williams Features Alongside Michael Jordan as Her Historic Sneakers Up for a Whopping Five-Figure Sum at New York Auction

Serena Williams, the 23 times Grand Slam champion, is one of the top athletes. Therefore, everything attire she wore on the court is nothing less than a treasure for fans. Her equipment and outfits hold high value, and recently her shoes designed by the late designer Virgil Abloh surfaced on the market for sale. Williams’ shoes are up for auction alongside the NBA legend Michael Jordan’s sneakers.

Serena ruled the courts for decades and has engraved her name in the annals of tennis in golden letters. Further, the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s off-court self also receives showers of adoration. She, in a way, represented tennis and brought scores of new fans to the sport over the course of her 27-year-long career.

Serena Williams’ sneakers are up for sale

The late Virgil Abloh, the founder of Off-White, collaborated with Nike in 2018 to create the former World no.1’s sneakers. In fact, that collaboration marked the beginning of a strong friendship between Serena and Abloh. Her sneakers are up for auction in New York alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan’s 1985 Jordan 1s. 

Two pairs of Jordan’s sneakers, which are worn and signed by the Chicago Bulls legend, is expected to fetch around $200,000 to $300,000. Whereas the ones which the former WTA world no.1 wore are expected to go for around $17,000 to $20,000.

Williams also collaborated with Abloh for her 2019 French Open attire, which drew mixed reactions from both fans and the organizers. The designer who passed away in 2021 initially presented an idea that consisted of an extravagant dress that many would wear to the Met Gala. Williams wasn’t ‘brave enough’ to it wear it as it gave her a crazy ‘Met Gala’ feel and to this date regrets turning down the magnificent offer.

Williams’ relationship with the fashion industry

The 41-year-old has always had a thing for fashion. However, she initially prioritized tennis and as soon as he touched the peak and established her dominance on the court, she started exploring the other arenas.

Williams started her career as a businesswoman and entered the fashion industry as well. She has walked many red carpets and has been a show stealer several times. For example, this year, she dressed in a pink Gucci dress accessorized with black lace gloves and walked the red carpet at the 94th Academy Awards.
