As her venture Hana Kuma caught the attention of everyone, the 26-year-old athlete recently expressed her enthusiasm for this new chapter, emphasizing that her athletic career, though successful, isn’t as lengthy as she’d like. Osaka’s pivot to entrepreneurship is driven by a genuine passion for the projects she’s undertaking.

“My career as an athlete isn’t as long as I would want it to be. So it’s good just to explore different avenues, and also everything that we’ve created is things that I’m very, very into and excited about. So it’s all coming from an organic place,” Osaka shared.

As she entered into this domain as a newbie back then, she expressed her gratitude towards recognized sports personalities. She added, “So we’ve been really fortunate to have, kind of, guidance from Mav and LeBron and see their input on things. And I think it’s been really important in, kind of, navigating through that world. I feel very lucky because I’m surrounded by people that know quite a lot and they’re able to guide me and give me really good information”

Osaka, through this move, not only presented her versatility but also highlighted the influence of seasoned entrepreneurs like Maverick Carter and LeBron James in streamlining the venture.

Naomi Osaka’s evolution from tennis sensation to the major force behind Hana Kuma, a story-driven production company, came out as an amazing tale of ambitions. The idea of bringing Hana Kuma to life was initiated by a conversation with her agent, Stuart Duguid, that revealed her eagerness to take a flight into the world beyond the tennis court.

Driven by a passion for authenticity, Osaka saw Hana Kuma as a platform to share diverse stories. With Duguid’s guidance, the company took flight in June 2023, with the assistance of SpringHill, an entertainment, marketing and production company co-founded by King James and Maverick Carter. Hana Kuma immediately started producing projects like the documentary MINK! that was focused on bringing out the inspiring journey of trailblazer Patsy Mink.

Talking about Osaka’s latest venture, Carter said, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, “We really want to see her build her own version of SpringHill… We’ve worked really hard to get SpringHill where it is, but now we want to help others to do the same, and to do it different than as we have done at SpringHill, and to do it in their own way and their own voice.”

While the company is still at a growing stage, it has crossed several milestones, like raising $5million in a funding round in April.
