She stood strong and paved her way to be called the best tennis player of all time, regardless of gender.

Actress, Brie Larson, read the letter for inspiring women written by the former world number one. Serena wrote, “My dream was to be the best tennis player in the world, not the best female tennis player in the world.” She also talked about how her gender and color have been a motivation for her during hard times.

In order to succeed, women have to conquer numerous obstacles in life. The fact that they are frequently persuaded that they are different in terms of getting paid compared to one of the greatest players. Williams in her letter, further iterated, “We are constantly reminded that we are not men, as if it is a flaw. People call me one of the world’s greatest female athletes. Do they say that LeBron James is one of the greatest male athletes, why not they are certainly not female, we should never let this go unchallenged.” Williams has consistently argued in favor of equal pay.

Williams concluded her letter by adding, “We should always be judged by our achievements, not our gender. We must continue to dream big and in doing so we empower the next generation of women to be just as bold in their pursuits.”
