American tennis star John McEnroe once claimed that he can beat both Venus and Serena Williams together. While he has a deep respect for the legendary sister duo, John gave himself a chance. It happened in 2004 when both Serena and Venus were in sublime form and were adding title after title to their names.

At a point, it seemed like there was no competition left for the Williams sisters on the women’s tour. McEnroe also commented on the highly debated pay disparity topic.
John McEnroe made a bold claim regarding Venus and Serena Williams
When asked if he can defeat any of the Williams sisters, the former world number one claimed he can do it one on one and take them in the doubles. The legendary tennis star still claimed that the Williams sisters are the best tennis players on the tour.
“I believe I could beat them – playing them either individually or at the same time. In fact, it would probably be easier playing them together because they’d confuse each other,” he said.

Further, the American spoke about the Williams sisters’ claim that they can beat men on the tennis court. ” The Williams sisters have said they think they can beat men and that they’re bored in the women’s game, but they haven’t come through on it,” McEnroe added.
13 years later, McEnroe again stirred controversy. He made claims that Serena would rank over 700 if she competed in the men’s category. Although the Williams sister didn’t react to any of the claims, it would have been interesting to see Serena and Venus face McEnroe. Another edition of battle of Sexes?

McEnroe compared the income of the Williams sisters with female soccer players
John McEnroe admitted that the pay disparity exists in tennis, but the American believes that the impact of the same is very less in tennis. Comparing it to other sports, the seven-time Grand Slam champion claimed that both Serena and Venus earn fifty times more than any female soccer player.

Further, he lauded the efforts put up by Billie Jean King to make it possible for female tennis players. McEnroe said that the Williams sisters should thank their luck for the same.
