Both Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have always raised their voice for equality, particularly in sports. Be it in the social or sports realm, their initiatives and investments prove their commitment towards the cause. Alexis Ohanian is a huge proponent of promoting women’s soccer and has also invested in the NWSL club, Angel City FC.

Along with him, Serena Williams and their daughter Olympia are co-owners of the club. In the wake of England’s women’s soccer team winning the Euro 2022 Championships, Ohanian took to Twitter to share the viewership numbers of the final to prove his point about the rising popularity of women’s sport.
Alexis Ohanian hails the huge viewership of the UEFA Women’s EURO finals
The Reddit co-founder took to Twitter to share the astounding viewership numbers in the Great Britain during the final of the women’s European championship. The match was held between England and Germany, in which the former clinched the trophy with a score of 2-1.
And there they are: 17.4M peak viewers on BBCone.
The population of England is 56M.
Over 31% of the country caught the match on TV.

Enthralled by the number of people who watched the action live, Ohanian shared the numbers on Twitter and stated, “And there they are: 17.4M peak viewers on BBCOne. The population of England is 56M. Over 31% of the country caught the match on TV. (and I doubt this accounts for pubs, shared-viewing at home, etc).”
Moreover, the Wembley stadium witnessed a record European Championship attendance of more than 87k. The Lionesses’ victory is one more step toward promoting women’s soccer and Ohanian took the opportunity to prove its increasing popularity.

How has Serena Williams promoted equality in sports?
Recently, Alexis Ohanian and his daughter Olympia attended the NWSL match between their club, Angel City FC and OL Reign. After the match, Olympia stepped onto the grass and scored a goal against her father. Along with Ohanian and his four-year-old daughter, Serena Williams has also invested in Angel City FC to promote women’s soccer in the United States.

Being a part of a sport like tennis where women’s participation has always enjoyed huge popularity, Williams is aiming to do that for other sports as well. She has voiced her take on equal pay for women tennis players so that it creates more opportunities for female players too.
