18-Year-Old Coco Gauff, Who Shot to Fame With a Thumping Win Over Venus Williams, Re-Lives Parents’ Emotional Moment – ‘My Dad Had His Restaurant..’

Coco Gauff, the young sensational tennis player, shares her views in a special interview in her hometown. She addressed the crowd which had gathered to mark a special occasion. The 18-year-old has gifted her 2019 Wimbledon outfit to the city of Delray.

Her Wimbledon 2019 attire will be prominently displayed in the city hall lobby for everyone to see. Gauff expressed her appreciation for her city Delray’s assistance. She noted that, despite having begun playing tennis in Atlanta, it was in Delray that she truly fell in love with the game.

Coco Gauff shares an emotional message for her hometown

Venus Williams, a five-time Wimbledon champion, was defeated by the fifteen-year-old American qualifier Gauff in the first round. When Coco Gauff defeated Venus Williams in her Wimbledon debut, she stunned the tennis world. Since then, Gauff has advanced swiftly through the ranks and is now among the most well-known athletes. At the gathering, she was quoted as,” I’ll never forget in 2019 when I felt all the love that I was receiving in London.”  She also thanked the entire city of Delray for their constant support throughout her journey.

Gauff was born in Georgia in 2004 to Candi, a gifted college track-field athlete, and Corey, a star college basketball player. The family later relocated to Delray Beach, Florida. The teen, who had trained with her father, has also spent time in France working with Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou. She was the youngest player in the Wimbledon main draw overall, but she advanced through qualifying. In addition, she is the youngest tennis player since Jennifer Capriati in 1991 to triumph in a singles match at Wimbledon.

To concentrate on advancing Gauff’s tennis career, her father quit his full-time job along with his wife. Gauff has gone through several professional coaches since she was a young child. However her father, Corey Gauff has always served as the team’s head coach.

Gauff further added, “But, having that video back when my dad had his restaurant…and seeing all the support from the city and my family, it was emotional for me.”

Gauff endures the longest losing streak of her season this year

Gauff’s 2022 season came to an end with the longest losing streak of her career. She has suffered defeat in her last five matches. Gauff had never lost more than three straight games. Gauff’s current losing streak started when she was defeated by Victoria Azarenka in a tense quarterfinal match at the Guadalajara Open, 6-7(2), 6-4, 3-6. Following that, the 18-year-old’s debut at the WTA Tour Finals saw her lose every match. She had lost 4-6, 3-6 to eventual champion Caroline Garcia.

Gauff’s 2022 WTA Tour Finals campaign began with a loss to Daria Kasatkina. The gifted teen also suffered her only singles defeat at the BJK Cup, falling to Czech player Katerina Siniakova 6-7(1), 1-6, ending her season with five straight defeats.
