Venus Williams, the seven-time Grand Slam champion, made a sensational debut in the WTA. She entered the sport as a teenager and over-powered, experienced players. Williams shined like no other and made her father and coach proud.

Rick Macci, who joined forces with Richard Williams to train the girl to this date, was in awe of Williams’ banger entry. Macci recently shared a picture of her early days and disclosed the emotions that it carried. Here’s what he wrote.
Macci flaunts his student Venus Williams’ marvelous debut
The American coach has had many talented students and is still coaching many young bloods. However, no one can come close to the place Venus Williams has in his heart. “1994. The Compton Comet shocks the world!” he wrote to express the emotions that are still fresh.

Thereafter he added, “3 & 1/2 years of training – no tournaments – in hibernation at RMTA! VW makes her debut 1994 & beats number 57 in the world & almost beats #1 in the world!”
“As a coach when your students know that you care, magic can occur!” Macci has given tennis five World No 1s. He trained both the Williams sisters, the five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, 1992 summer Olympics gold medalist Jennifer Capriati and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick.

What is Venus Williams up to these days?
The former World No 1 stayed on the sidelines for over a year because of a pestering leg injury. She returned to the circuit, through the mixed doubles of this season’s Wimbledon Championships. Williams played alongside the former doubles world no 1 Jamie Murray and made up to the round of 16.

Following that, she made a singles comeback on the hard courts of the Citi Open. The 42-year-old then took part in almost every event of American swing and failed to book herself a seat in the second round. She is yet to secure a singles win for herself.
