Venus Williams’ designed athletic club makes a shocking move

The former Wimbledon champion’s interior designing firm previously concluded their project of creating a tennis lounge and a hotel suite for Chicago’s Midtown hotel. And now Venus Williams’ designed Midtown athletic club has become a hugely contentious topic for the public as they made a shocking move to fire all 38 of its housekeepers.

A journalist named, Alex Press recently broke the news on Twitter as she stated, “I wrote about Chicago’s luxury Midtown Athletic Club, which abruptly fired all 38 of its housekeepers. The club says the layoffs were part of a long-planned switch to an outside contractor, but the workers say it’s retaliation. They want their jobs back.”

According to Press, there were major concerns about the lack of equipment and staff in Chicago’s Midtown hotel. The housekeepers also received a number of layoff notices before they were abruptly fired from their respective positions. Press also disclosed some surprising details on a document that the staff members reluctantly signed.

She tweeted, “Workers say they were urged to sign a document claiming that they’d resigned rather than been fired if they wanted to get severance. One says she was told to sign the document if she wanted to be able to collect belongings she had left on club property. Management contests this.”

The housekeepers also expressed their opinion on the matter

According to Press, one of the staff told that they always gave their best for the hotel and athletic club. They are now urging Midtown members to support them in their protest during such an adverse phase. Meanwhile, one such member named Córdova stated that she thinks Midtown assumed members would neglect such mass firing of the hotel’s staff.
