Newly crowned US Open champion Coco Gauff made a lot of reshuffling in her coaching team before finally hitting top gear during the North American hard-court swing. After parting ways with long-time coach Diego Moyano earlier this year, Gauff took advice from Patrick Mouratoglou for a brief period, although he was never appointed as her official coach. Afterwards, she roped in Spanish coach Pere Riba, before finally joining hands with Brad Gilbert prior to the Cincinnati Masters.
During an interview with CNN post Gauff’s US Open triumph, Mouratoglou stirred up a hornet’s nest as he seemed to be taking the credit for the teenager’s success. Fans expressed their displeasure with Mouratoglou on X (formerly Twitter) after Gauff was presented as the coach’s ‘newest star’.
