American tennis sisters Serena and Venus Williams found a great coach in their father Richard Williams. Having no formal training in the sport, he did really well to arrange training facilities for his daughter. While every parent is confident about their children’s abilities, Richard went one step forward to help his daughters get more opportunities to play. One such instance from Venus’ teenage days came out when LA Lakers president Jeanie Buss spoke about it in a recent podcast. Here’s what happened.
How Richard Williams did everything to increase Venus’ exposure
There’s no doubt that both Serena and Venus Williams owe everything they achieved to their father. More than the girls, it was Richard’s dream to see his daughters become the top tennis players of all time. Richard left no stone unturned in the process to provide them with better exposure.

In a recent episode of Advantage Connors, Jeanie Buss recalled the time she first saw Richard Williams and the way he advocated for his extremely talented daughter Venus Williams.
Here’s what she said. “When you talk about women’s tennis, I think back to a guy that kind of hounded me at the forum during the tennis events. He would tell me how great his daughter was at tennis. And I was like yeah, I’ve heard this like hundred times and you know her name was venue Williams.”
This reveals how a father went from people to people and somehow tried his best to provide his girls with a better playing opportunity. This is how we make champions.

Venus provides an injury update
Fans were eagerly waiting for the 42-year-old to play in the Australian Open. While the former world number one revealed that she had an opportunity to play in the first Grand Slam of the year, she had to refuse it. The reason was her hamstring injury.
Speaking in detail, Venus revealed that she had a precautionary MRI after she had trouble walking. It confirmed her hamstring injury. While she could have still taken a chance, the seven-time Grand Slam champion decided not to risk and provide the opportunity to play for someone else who can make full use of it.
