Chris Evert is one of the strongest athletes of all time. She not only survived but flourished in a sport that requires both mental and physical strength. Her abilities were tested several times while in tennis. However, the tests didn’t end with her career. A few years ago, a calamity knocked on her door.

She had to cope with the mental strain of losing her sister. However, she stayed strong and supported her. Today she is proud of how bravely her sister fought for her own life and saved Evert’s as well.

Chris Evert about the deceiving nature of cancer
While speaking to the Tennis Channel, Evert stumbled upon the question of how she feels about a charity naming a brand in her sister’s honor. She said, “It’s a hideous cancer because you don’t have any signs whatsoever.”

“And because of her death, I am alive. I will always have her in my thoughts and in my mind when I am going out and trying to talk about cancer.” The 18 times Grand Slam champion added. Evert’s sister Jeanne Evert Dublin passed away in the year 2020 at the age of 60.

Dublin, who was also a retired tennis professional, suffered from ovarian cancer and after a struggle of around two and a half years, she said goodbye to the world. Her death, in turn, made Evert go through a preventive hysterectomy and helped her detect the traces of the deadly disease at a very early stage.

She tested positive for stage one ovarian cancer. Though the news came as a shock to the world, it was a relief that her life wasn’t in danger. Evert opted for immediate medical help. She dropped everything in January and underwent six chemotherapy sessions to uproot the disease. Now she is as good as ever.

Evert’s way of giving back to the society
Since her sister’s death, she has taken active participation in campaigns that aim to spread awareness about cancer and help the ones in need. Further apart from that, she runs Chris Evert Charities.

The charity focuses on getting rid of drug abuse and working on child neglect. Also, other than investing her fortune in cancer research, she believes in supporting fundraisers that are arranged to fight social evils.
