Eugenie Bouchard has been one of the top Canadian players over the last decade. She has regularly featured in big tournaments before her injury put her on the sidelines last season. Chiefly, she was a force to reckon with on the grass courts at Wimbledon. During her junior days, Bouchard won a couple of doubles titles and a singles title at the tournament. Further, she reached the finals of the women’s singles in 2014 at Wimbledon, losing to Petra Kvitova in the title clash.

However, despite a strong start to her career, the Canadian has struggled with consistency. She has had up and down form throughout her career. Reaching a career-high ranking of Number 5 in 2014, Bouchard has dropped out of the top-1000 now.

It was a sad day for Canadian Hockey on Friday. Legendary player, Guy Lafleur passed away aged 70. He had been battling lung cancer for nearly three years. Bouchard remembered her meeting with the legendary hockey player while paying tribute to him.

Eugenie Bouchard feels privileged to have met Guy Lafleur

The Canadian tennis star took to Twitter to mourn the passing away of Guy Lafleur. Talking about their meeting, she said, “I had the privilege of meeting Guy in 2015. He was kind, gracious and generous. The Flower, a legend and a gentleman.”

Following the death of the hockey legend, Canadian Prime Minister,  Justin Trudeau, released a statement, saying, “I was saddened to hear of the passing of hockey legend, Guy Lafleur. He was unlike anyone else on the ice – his speed, skill, and scoring were hard to believe.”

On the tennis front, Bouchard has been battling a shoulder injury since March, last season. Subsequently, she has been out of action since and also underwent shoulder surgery last June.

After a lengthy injury layoff, the 28-year-old is hopeful of making a comeback later this year. However, it will not be smooth-sailing for her, especially with her ranking dropping out of the top-1000.
