Coco Gauff is on a high after winning the WTA Finals, proving herself as a top player. Despite a season filled with ups and downs, she entered the tournament ranked No. 3. Gauff faced tough competition, facing Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek in the group stage, and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals. She ultimately overcame all the challenges and her victory against Qinwen Zheng in the final was particularly sweet. She later expressed gratitude to her fans for their unwavering support. And it looks like her fanbase is joined by a renowned personality.
In a thrilling final, Gauff triumphed over Zheng with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) after a grueling three-hour match. This win makes her the youngest player to clinch the WTA Finals title since Maria Sharapova in 2004 and the first American champion in a decade. Rick Macci, former coach of Serena Williams, joined the celebration on social media.
He tweeted, “What I love about Coco Gauff game is she can and will improve a lot more as she already has the internal wiring of a champion and the blazing foot speed of a world-class track athlete. Fasten WTA seat belt as a new sheriff is coming to town 2025. @CocoGauff” True to word, she has shown great improvement in these last couple of weeks.

Gauff’s recent rise can be attributed to her new coach, Matt Daly. After parting ways with Brad Gilbert in September, Gauff has shown remarkable improvement. She secured her first title of the season at the Auckland Open and later won the China Open against Karolina Muchova. Going ahead, she’s quite excited to work alongside Daly for the next season, she revealed, “I think this is probably what it will look like next year too. I’m super excited for a new change and hopefully to improve other parts of my game.”
Coming back to Rennae Stubbs, she had made an interesting prediction about Gauff’s performance in the WTA Finals.

Ahead of the commencement of the tournament, Rennae Stubbs had backed Coco Gauff up saying she could easily win the WTA Finals if she just focused on one important detail – her serve. Now that her prediction had come true, Stubbs wasted no time in hopping onto her X profile. The former coach of Serena Williams expressed excitement for Coco Gauff’s performance in the WTA Finals. True to Stubb’s words, since the beginning of the WTA Finals, Gauff demonstrated significant improvement in her serve during her match against Jessica Pegula. She recorded only two double faults, well below Stubbs’ threshold. This marked a notable turnaround for Gauff, whose serving had been a concern throughout the season.
