‘A Sad and Unnecessary Tragedy’ – Martina Navratilova Reacts in Despair After ‘Donnie Brasco’ Actress Anne Heche’s Passing

Martina Navratilova was credited for her aggressive serve and volley game during her playing days. Following her retirement, she has been known for her strong point of view, particularly on social media. However, with a personality like this, what often goes unnoticed is her sensitive side.

Yesterday, the 12th of August, the world went into despair after learning about the untimely demise of the Hollywood actor, Anne Heche. With the news breaking, fans and well-wishers took to their social media handles, mourning the demise of the 53-year-old actor. One such well-wisher was tennis legend, Martina Navratilova.

Anne Heche suffered a major car crash on 5th August. Suffering from a brain injury, the Donnie Brasco fame star had been in a state of coma ever since. A week later, yesterday, the actress was declared brain dead. However, keeping up with her long wish of organ donation, she was kept on life support to determine whether her organs are viable for donation. Giving an update on the situation, a representative of Heche asserted that she was ‘not expected to survive’.

Dispirited by the words of the representative, Navratilova took to her Twitter handle, saying, “This is sad…”

Close to 8 hours later, Heche was removed from life support. Facing the moment of truth, the Daytime Emmy Award winner was declared dead. Moments after the loss, the devastated family of Heche issued a joint statement.

“We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact,” the statement read.

Broken by the death of the Ohio born actor, Navratilova took to her Twitter handle, putting up another Tweet. Sharing the news of Heche’s death, she wrote, “What a sad and unnecessary tragedy… RIP…”

Going back to the date of the accident, Heche crashed her car into a Mar Vista Home. With the home catching fire, the actor was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. As per the police reports, the actor suffered significant burns in the crash.
