Legendary tennis star Chris Evert is among the best in her sport. The 67-year-old is not only a former great but also a great analyst and fine commentator. Known for her cool-headed temperament in her professional life, Evert had a rather messed up personal life. The former world number one married thrice, but none of them lasted. However, her second marriage with Andy Mill was by far her best decision. The couple had three sons together and Evert lived a happy family life for a long time.

Back when her son Alex was young, Evert and her husband Mill spoke about his future in an interview. They made it clear that they won’t be forcing tennis on him. Here’s the detailed information.

Why Chris Evert and Andy Mill didn’t want to push their son into tennis

Both Chris Evert and Andy Mill were professional athletes. It was very logical to think that their son Alex might also follow the path their parents followed. However, both Evert and Mill had no such idea of forcing tennis on their son. Back in an old interview, here’s what they said about the same.

“If he feels anything, it’ll be coming from the outside, not from us. If he feels anything, it’ll be from the other kids or the other parents or whatever,” Mill said.

Evert also echoed similar emotions as her then-husband Mill.

She said, “I’d rather he not be a tennis pro.”

Giving the reason behind her wish, Evert said, “If you’re at the top of your profession, it’s a great life. But if you’re not, it’s not that great a life. It’s a very frustrating life.”

Evert regrets splitting up with Andy Mill

Chris Evert had an 18-year-long marriage with Andy Mill. However, their relationship came to an abrupt end after Evert decided to call it quits with Mill as she fell in love with Mill’s best friend, Greg Norman.

The couple separated in 2008 and Evert married Norman. However, the marriage fell apart quickly. The heartbreak for the third time put Evert in depression and had to seek professional help for the same.
