Naomi Osaka made a comeback from maternity leave at the start of 2024. She started her season ranking 833 in the world, even so, she managed to finish the year inside the Top 100! This year has been a mix of good and bad for the Japanese star. Some highlights of her 2024 season include her QF run at the Qatar Open and s-Hertogenbosch. Also, let’s not forget her incredible performance against Iga Swiatek at the French Open! However, she was forced to end her 2024 season a bit early due to back and abdominal injuries. Now, with the season coming to an end and her eyes already set on the ASB Classic, she finds some time to interact with her fans.

Just a couple of days ago, she shared an update on her upcoming book, and now she was spotted hilariously warning her fans about films their children pick in their childhood. Is she a bit worried too about her daughter’s adorable obsession with movies? Like mother, like daughter! The 27-year-old Japanese tennis star recently shared a post on Threads and in that post, she wrote, “Growing up if your daughter’s favorite movie was “Confessions of a Shopaholic” then I’m just letting you know you’re about to have a big problem [crying emoji].” Then a few moments later, she shared a similar post on her IG Story, but she added two more names to the list this time!

What were the other two names, though? Well, the second one was “Devil Wears Prada,” and the third one she mentioned was “She’s the Man. She captioned that story with “Impeccable childhood movies.” Talking about these movies, Confessions of a Shopaholic is a 2009 American romantic comedy film based on the first two entries in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series of novels. While The Devil Wears Prada (2006) is an American comedy-drama film directed by David Frankel and produced by Wendy Finerman. It follows an aspiring journalist who gets a job at a fashion magazine but finds herself at the mercy of her demanding editor.

What about the third one? Well, the third one, i.e. She is the Man is a 2006 American romantic comedy teen sports film directed by Andy Fickman. Inspired by William Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night, the film centers on teenage Viola Hastings, who enters her brother’s boarding school in his place and pretends to be a boy in order to play on the boys’ soccer team. These three movies are truly gems from the past! Which is Naomi Osaka’s favorite movie, though?

In January 2021, during a fun Q&A session, she was asked a similar question and her reply to that was ‘Spirited Away’. It is a Japanese animated film that was released back in 2001. Talking about movies and Naomi Osaka, do you know before becoming a tennis player, she was also an actress?

Yes, you heard that right! During an interview with CLAY, renowned journalist Ben Rothenberg revealed, “I found a lot of things I didn’t know about her life. Like she was in a movie. Her father made movies, so she was an actress when she was 7-8 years old. Is called ‘Selfish love’.” For those who are unaware, Rothenberg is also the biographer of Naomi Osaka! Now, let’s shift our focus from biography to her upcoming autobiography. What is she planning to reveal in her autobiography, though?

Naomi Osaka reflects on the self-doubts she has battled throughout her childhood in her upcoming autobiography

On Friday, Naomi Osaka spoke about her next big project on the IG Threads. She wrote, “So I’ve been writing a book and I think I want to post one excerpt on IG because I feel like someone might find it relatable and that would make me happy.” Then a day later, we saw her teasing her fans with an eye-opening excerpt from her unreleased autobiography. She posted four screenshots of a section called, ‘Ramblins1 (Self Love?)’ in her IG account. What did she mention in those screenshots?

It started with Naomi Osaka claiming, “Growing up I never really liked myself. While that statement is bold I also wouldn’t say I disliked myself either. It was strange contradiction of thought, I was existing but I didn’t have a strong emotion or opinion tied to my being whether positive or negative. That being said, for some reason when I was young I knew that I potentially would’ve preferred to be someone else. Perhaps a pop star, or someone really famous and rich at the time.” After that, she made a wise statement about comparing yourself to someone else.

She wrote, “Comparison is the thief of joy,” and then went on to explain how, as a teenager, she used to compare herself to other people. Naomi Osaka also revealed that despite managing to do a better job in dealing with all of that, she admits that there are still times when those doubts that lingered with her in childhood reappear. “One huge realization I had is that everyone is just trying to cope with this thing called life. There’s going to be ups and downs but in truth, it is your journey and you have to decide for yourself how your life looks for you. It is, after all, your life to live,” she wrote. Share your thoughts on what you feel about these excerpts from her upcoming autobiography.
