After a Mammoth Fifth Change in 18 Months, British Star Emma Raducanu Oozes Optimism With New Coach’s Arrival – ‘A Really Calm Influence’

British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has come up with yet another coaching change. The 20-year-old is going through a tough phase in her career. After entering her name in the record books by winning the 2021 US Open, Raducanu couldn’t add another title in 2022. However, it won’t be wrong to say that her year was injury-laden, and her frequent coaching changes had both fans and pundits wondering about her approach.

Here’s what the Briton said about her recent coaching change.

Emma Raducanu on the latest change in her coaching staff

In the past 18 months, Raducanu has tried five different coaches. The recent one is the German tennis coach Sebastian Sachs. With her new coach, Raducanu will travel Down Under for a trial period before deciding on a longer run. Speaking about her latest coaching change, the 20-year-old said,

“Yeah, we are trialling until the end of the year. Just seeing how it goes really. It has been going really well so far. I have only done a week with him. He’s a really calm influence. He is on it, switched on and excited to see how it goes.”

Further, talking about her plans, the Briton said that she aims to win a big tournament this year. “For me, I really want to make inroads at any tournament. Slams, I love the big occasions, I love the big courts, the atmosphere. Any tournament for me, my goal is in 2023 to win a title,” she added.

Sachs is an experienced tennis coach and has the experience of working with former world number one Victoria Azarenka and Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic.

Raducanu to feature in ASB Classic in Auckland

After a forgettable year, Raducanu will look forward to making a fresh start in 2023. The British number 1 will start her campaign at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. The tournament was not organized in 2021 and 2022 because of the travel restrictions in New Zealand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The last time it was held in 2020, Serena Williams won the title. In 2023, the likes of Coco Gauff, Sloane Stephens and Leylah Fernandez will also join Raducanu in the tournament.
