Winning a grandslam is a dream for every tennis player. However, only a few players get to experience that feeling. Even though a number of them come close to that spot, they mostly fail to taste the ultimate glory. At least the ongoing Australian Open 2022 brought the same story for Alize Cornet.

Alize recently expressed her feelings on the same. The world number 61 reached her career’s first quarter-final of a grand slam at the Australian Open 2022. Even though she lost to 27th seed Danielle Collins, she extended her respect towards all the grand slam winners.

The French player expressed how difficult it is to win a grand slam and what must the feeling be when one does win.

Eternal respect for all the winners

After her quarter-final loss, Cornet was attending the post-match conference when one of the journalists asked her to give voice to her feeling for the last 2 weeks.

Cornet, who obviously seemed to be disappointed by her performance, took this question with utmost grace. Having her best grand slam performance till date, she conveyed huge respect towards all winners.

She said, I have an eternal respect for the Slam winners. It’s such a long way. My god. I feel like I’m playing this tournament for almost a year…so exhausted, mentally, physically, when you go all the way and you win this freaking seven matches… it’s just huge”

Before entering the Australian Open 2022, Alize’s best grand slam performance dated back to the 2020 US Open, where she reached the 4th round.

Alize Cornet sees a halt in her dream run at the Australian Open 

Alize Cornet started off her Melbourne Park campaign with a straight-set win in the first round. Playing like a storm, she stunned the 3rd seed Garbine Muguruza in straight sets in the next round. Playing at her top form, she went on to beat 27th seed Tamara Zidansek and 14th seed Simona Halep in the 3rd and the 4th round respectively.

Moving a step further, she played Danielle Collins in the quarter-finals. The 32-year-old started the match like a solid player, going toe to toe with Collins in the first set. However, she struggled to play Collins’s fast strokes, losing the match 5-7, 1-6.
