The Pennsylvania-born actor has been receiving immense love and appreciation for his performance not just by the audience but also by the critics. Till date, the 53-year-old has won a total of three awards for his portrayal of Richard Williams in the movie.

Will Smith recently won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at the SAG Awards. Being his first accolade at the SAG Awards, Smith took the stage with pride, giving a thank you speech which was worth listening to. However, what took even more attention was his candid interview after the awards ceremony. During the interview, the lead actor of King Richard broke into tears.

Will Smith is known for his highly emotional personality. Talking to a journalist of Entertainment Tonight, Smith was questioned about the reason behind him being the verge of an emotional breakdown throughout the ceremony.

Taking the question with grace, Smith started elaborating on the reason behind him being emotional during the ceremony. He started by saying, “I’m here tonight with Saniyya and Demi, the girls who play Venus and Serena, and Anjanue Ellis. Also, Venus is here with her sister Isha who’s the executive producer.”

King Richard was a movie based on the life of father and coach of Venus and Serena, Richard Williams. The film portrays how even with the odds were against him, Richard fought through all the hardships of life and went all the way to train his daughters and make them the best at what they do.
