‘Almost Jumped off My 26th-Floor’ – Australian Former World No.4 Bravely Shares Her Traumatic Experience

Former Australian tennis star Jelena Dokic made headlines when the teenager defeated Martina Hingis back in 1999. Her fifteen-year-long career was full of challenges as she grew up with an abusive father and had issues with her coach. The former world number four kept fighting the battle inside and outside the court. She was struggling with the issues in her personal life which affected her game badly.

The 39-year-old also wrote her biography, where she shared the details of her relationship with her father. After her retirement from tennis, the Aussie tried her hands at coaching and commentary. Dokic is an avid speaker and loves to share her thoughts for the betterment of others. Recently, she shared a dark chapter from her life.

Jelena Dokic reveals the worst phase of life

While Dokic was a brilliant tennis player, she could have been even better.  The challenges in her personal life made it difficult for the Aussie to rise to her full potential. Notably, the 39-year-old recently came out of a 19-year-old relationship with Tin Bikic. The breakdown of the relationship affected her mental health, as she claimed at one point she wanted to jump off her 26th-floor balcony.

“I almost jumped off my 26th-floor balcony and took my own life.” She wrote.

The former tennis star opened up about her situation, as she believes it might help others who are in a similar situation. While she decided to come out and tell her story, she also wanted to give a message that it’s okay to feel what she feels and one should fight it and come back.

“I am writing this because I know I am not the only one struggling. Just know that you are not alone. It’s OK to feel what I am feeling. It’s OK to feel sad, just keep fighting and come back. That’s what I am trying to do, and that’s what keeps me going.” She added.

After the covid-19 pandemic brought people’s lives to halt, people have come forward to share their issues regarding mental health. The way Dokic decided to share her story, will educate people about mental health and will definitely save lives.

While many lauded the brave decision of the 39-year-old to come forward and share her story, her fans and friends showed their support for the former tennis star.
