Going down to her compatriot Madison Keys in the fourth round, the American tennis star’s US Open run proved unfortunate- but not as much as the media portrayed it to be. The media coverage of these major events lets tennis fans all over the world stay updated with not just the matches but also the players’ reactions or banter both on and off the court. However, Pegula is not letting anyone mess with her truth.

The American tennis star Pegula went against her compatriot Madison Keys in the fourth round of the US Open. Despite having a higher ranking than Keys, Pegula failed to dominate her opponent. Unfortunately, she went down to Keys in straight sets. Though a heavy loss, it was not worth too much mulling over for Pegula. However, some media outlets took her reactions too far as they portrayed her as crying right after her loss.

During her post-match conference though, she did not go lightly on such outlets. She pointed out one outlet and asked, “Were you guys the ones that tweeted that I cried when I walked off the court?” When there was not any response, she continued, “Someone said I walked off the court in tears. I most definitely was not crying.”

She once again put the media outlet on the spot and pointed out, “I’m pretty sure that was from you guys. I don’t know if you tweeted it exactly.” Furthermore, she clarified that she had other concerns in her head and she was pondering about that.

Pegula said, “I definitely wasn’t crying, so… It just sounded really sad.” She then lightheartedly explained, “I just got waxed in like an hour. I got to go play doubles in an hour.” And even though the singles streak ended dishearteningly for Pegula, she made up for that in the doubles category. She and her partner, Coco Gauff, have now entered the quarter-finals of the doubles category. It is a respite for Gauff as well after she faced a disheartening run in the mixed doubles at the US Open.

Coco Gauff confesses her dislike for mixed doubles

The American teenage sensation has raised the hopes of the US crowd as she advances to the Singles quarter-finals of the US Open. Apart from that, she has also made it to the quarter-finals of the doubles of the US Open. However, the fate was not the same for her mixed doubles run. She and Jack Sock faced an unfortunate defeat in the first round itself.

In her post-match conference, she confessed that the mixed doubles is not her favorite category to play in. Moreover, she expressed her discontent with getting aced multiple times. She also finds it demeaning when a guy seems to be going easy with his shots on the female player. Not finding a level ground for competition, Gauff is possibly not planning to play the category for long.
