Queen V would step onto the court and the minds of her opponent would go into overdrive, trying to come up with a strategy to face her down. Many weren’t able to manage a win. When some thought they gained an advantage, Williams would go into sixth gear and pull ahead with a magical comeback. One such instance happened in her match against Martina Hingis, whom Williams called her epic rival.

Venus Williams and Martina Hingis have faced each other a total of 21 times. Their rivalry stands in the favor of Hingis as the Swiss player leads with 11 victories over Williams.

Venus Williams about her crazy battle with Martina Hingis
Williams and Hingis once faced each other in the Poland Open. Their match went on to three sets, as the two were not ready to give up. Hingis was leading from the start with 6-4, 3-0. However, Queen V was not letting her rival take the glory. She put her all into the game and won with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

This became a great comeback for her as she was able to advance to the quarterfinals. A highlights video of the match was shared on Twitter. Williams also shared the video, reminiscing about the battle. She remembered the match as she had lower body cramps and still prevailed. She added that Hingis and herself always had the craziest battle. “I had full lower body cramps in this match! It was dramatic. We always had the craziest battles!”

In 1998, Richard Williams used to be at the forefront as the spokesperson for his daughters. During the Acura Classic in 1998, Richard bashed Hingis before her match against Serena Williams. He was firm in his belief that Serena would triumph over her and used some brash words. However, the Swiss player beat Serena with ease.

After the match, Hingis retorted to Richard and referenced his quote saying that Serena couldn’t beat him. The Swiss player had quite the bad blood with the Williams.
