The demise of Vogue editor and fashion journalist Andre Leon Talley has affected innumerable people across the world. 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is one of them.

Passing away at the age of 73, Talley was one of the most influential people of color in the industry. Moreover, he was also a terrific fashion icon, one who set the course of history with his influence.

Serena took to Instagram to remember the late icon, thanking him for everything he did for Venus and her.

Serena Williams remembers being with Andre as if it were yesterday

It comes as no surprise that Serena and Andre knew each other, and well. In fact, both of them are cultural icons and stalwarts, pioneers in their fields. Furthermore, Serena Williams even ventured into fashion with her clothing line, for which Andre was all praises.

In her Instagram stories, Serena posted a string of photographs with Andre, expressing her heartbreak over the sad news of his demise. Then, she shared a photograph of the two of them from her Fall Winter 20 presentation of the S by Serena clothing line at the New York Fashion Week.

“How I will always remember us,” Serena wrote next to the picture, where the two are looking at each other with admiration. Additionally, she also wrote how she would remember what Andre “did for me and @venuswilliams”.

In her next picture, Serena linked an Instagram post remembering the late Vogue editor, which had a picture of the two of them at the Vera Wang fashion show in 2010. “How I remember this moment like it was yesterday,” she wrote on the photograph.

No update on Serena’s return yet

The tennis megastar has not graced the tennis court in over 6 months, ever since her first-round exit from Wimbledon last year. She had hurt her left leg after slipping during a point in the match itself, which led to a serious hamstring injury for Williams.

Consequently, her hamstring injury led to her having to withdraw from the US Open as well. Ever since then, Williams has not returned to the tour. Many expected her to show up for the Australian Open after having half a year to recover, but those hopes did not amount to anything.

Sadly, Williams also had to pull out of the first Grand Slam of 2022 as well. She stated that her medical team did not deem her completely ready or recovered yet to play tennis at the highest level again.
