“Losing in two finals in a row is great, but then it’s also super hard. I think I didn’t fight hard enough for my dreams today.” The 2025 summer has been extremely brutal for Amanda Anisimova. A stellar campaign on grass led her to her maiden Wimbledon final. Only to succumb to a double bagel loss against Iga Swiatek close to 60 days ago. And last week, playing in her second-straight slam final at home in front of over 20,000 supporters, the 24-year-old failed to cross the finish line once again. This time, it was World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka who denied her a chance to etch her name on the coveted trophy. As if the recent setback wasn’t enough, her journey forward this season is now a question mark.

Anisimova has been in action for most of 2025. She has been actively competing in all prominent tournaments. Despite her Wimbledon loss, she appeared in Montreal. Later, she also played in Cincinnati before entering Flushing Meadows. While the final outcome didn’t go in her favor, many tennis lovers were eager to see her back on the court with another campaign. Sadly, we won’t, not this soon, and at least not this month.
It appears Anisimova has been experiencing a problem with her ankle. Mostly incurred due to her US Open run as she played in New York for two-straight weeks. While the WTA pro didn’t initially reveal any fitness-related issues, the official IG account of the Korea Open – where she was supposed to play next – just made it official. Anisimova has withdrawn from her first post-US Open event, in Seoul. Reason? The “ankle injury suffered during the US OPEN” read the post caption (from translation). Later, Anisimova also confirmed it through her own IG story. “I’m so sad to miss Korea this year, as I really enjoyed my time there last year. I really hope to be back next year 🥲 🤍 So sorry and see you guys there soon”

Interestingly, she isn’t the only one who has pulled out of an upcoming event just days after the campaign in New York. Seems like the experience of two hectic weeks of tennis has been too gruelling to handle. As a result, many other renowned stars have withdrawn from crucial tournaments. For example, US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, who beat archrival Jannik Sinner in the summit clash last week, won’t be appearing in Davis Cup qualifier matches due to fatigue. Similarly, other pros like Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul, and Felix Auger-Aliassime will miss their respective Davis Cup ties as well.

Coming back to Anisimova, she may have failed to achieve her maiden slam, but she did accomplish a major milestone in her career. Especially when it comes to the rankings.
Silver lining for Amanda Anisimova as she shines in rankings after US Open
While the campaign at Wimbledon propelled her to a place in the top 10, for the first time, the US Open run has further cemented her place in the top 5. Simply put, Amanda Anisimova has achieved her career-best ranking following her appearance in the summit clash last week.
From being World No.9, Anisimova has now jumped to the No.4 spot. Fourteen months ago, she was outside the top 170 while failing to qualify for Wimbledon. But now, she’s among the best ones out there, proving her mettle.
