Reminiscing about the same, the American tennis veteran Tracy Austin recently hailed the reigning Wimbledon champion.

Tracy Austin recalls Markéta Vondroušová’s phone call to her husband

After missing out on the previous edition due to a wrist injury, Vondroušová entered this season’s grass Grand Slam event as an unseeded player. The Czech tennis star performed brilliantly to reach the quarterfinals, where she faced Jessica Pegula and was down 3-1 in the third set. However, during a stoppage due to concerns about potential rain, Vondroušová decided to speak to her husband on a phone call.

Vondroušová later returned to court and somehow turned the match in her favor after winning five games against the American player. Emphasizing her phenomenal comeback after that phone call. Tracy Austin said, “She returned to the court with an ultra-aggressive mindset and ended up winning five of the last six games for the victory.”

In a recent conversation with Tennis.com, the Hall of Famer also opened up about how the WTA superstar brought ‘joy to the Centre Court’ during her breakthrough campaign in London.

After overcoming Pegula in the quarterfinals, Markéta Vondroušová was set up for a blockbuster semifinal against crowd favorite Elina Svitolina. She breezed past the Ukrainian player, who was in stellar form throughout the grass-court major tournament.

Later, Vondroušová secured another straight-set win, 6-4, 6-4, in the championship match against Ons Jabeur, as she clinched her maiden Grand Slam title. Notably, the American tennis veteran Tracy Austin was all praise for Vondroušová as she said, “What joy Marketa brought to Centre Court.”
