After sharing a bittersweet relationship with one another, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova finally came together as two of the closest friends in the history of tennis as they helped each other through their cancer journey. Even though both of them were diagnosed with the Big C at different times, they made sure to call each other first when they received the news.

Owing to the same conversation, the American legends, Evert and Navratilova sit down for an interview with The Washington Post to talk about their journeys individually and how they joined forces to battle against the most disrupting opponent ever of their lives.

American tennis legends attempt to bring awareness about cancer

After having suffered such an obnoxious disease firsthand, the two remarkable women in the world of tennis decided that what they went through should not be the fate of other women. And that is how they decided to join forces and become vocal advocates of the disease through their public and social media presence.

Chris and Martina shared how they want to make sure that no one is ashamed of cancer. And they are able to take the correct tests as and when needed so they are able to detect the nasty disease in time. This way they can get treatment in time and save their lives.

Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova talk about their battles with cancer

In the interview with The Washington Post, Chris Evert talked about how her sister Jeannie was the one who was diagnosed with cancer first. And she could not make it. After she died, the doctor informed Evert that this could be a genetic thing and that she should also get herself checked. To her shock, Evert was also diagnosed with the same cancer as her sister. However, it was in the early stage which is why she could get treated and be saved.

Similarly, Martina Navratilova also shares how the last year of mammograms detected cancer. She suffered from two types of cancer breast and throat. She shared that she was lucky that it was one after the other and not both at the same time. Otherwise, things could have been worse for her.
