Gauff is currently in New York where she’s playing in the US Open, her home Grand Slam tournament. She has performed exceptionally well and reached the semifinals of the tournament. Accompanying her is the 62-year-old veteran coach Gilbert.

Gilbert has found quirky ways to coach the 19-year-old Gauff. Besides giving tennis coaching lessons, Gilbert has been trying to introduce Gauff to music, sending her links to songs by Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and the Eagles.

However, the legendary coach made an upsetting revelation on Gauff, saying that the American sensation has “never heard of Springsteen”.

Earlier, during a press conference, Gauff made a candid revelation about her coach’s music choices. She said, “He’s sending me crazy playlists of like 60s and 70s bands but I haven’t kept up with it.”

In no time, Gilbert and Gauff have developed a strong relationship. The former earlier revealed how fatherhood eventually made his partnership with Gauff a success.

Gilbert credits fatherhood for successful results with Gauff

Last month, the 62-year-old revealed in an interview that becoming a father has helped him understand Gauff better. Eventually, that led to a successful start to their partnership. Talking about it, he said, “I’ve got girls that are 31 [Julian] and 26 [Zoe]. I think I might have talked to them when they were 19.”

Recently though, the two had an uncomfortable interaction. During Gauff’s 4th round match against Caroline Wozniacki, Gilbert, seated right in the front, offered some tips to Gauff during the match. However, the American sensation, who was quite tense, turned serious and told him to stop sending tips during her match.
