American WTA Star, Who Faced Serena Williams-Like Child-Birth Experience, Reveals Big Plans for Her Tennis Future – ‘Go for the Winner’s Trophy’

In a recent podcast with Mitch Michals, Taylor Townsend talked about her comeback after pregnancy. She talked about how she resonates with Serena Williams and her post-partum success. 

Taylor made a stunning comeback in professional tennis with the ITF W100 event in Florida. She went on to win both her first singles and first double matches.

Taylor Townsend is now “into that mix”

Taylor expressed her happiness and pride at being a Grand Slam finalist after her pregnancy. She said, “I have never been that far in a Grand Slam, in singles or doubles…”

Townsend was not shy to talk about her ambitions ahead. She confessed that the next step is to “go for the winners’ trophy”. Townsend also brought up Serena Williams while talking about her happiness at being a Grand Slam finalist. “Outside of Serena, there have been no other women, I don’t think, that have made Grand Slam finals post-baby, whether singles, you know- maybe doubles…I’m not sure.”

Taylor Townsend is definitely glad to be able to join that club. “I know I was able to add myself into that mix,” she added.

Townsend’s first child Adyn was due in March 2021, as she announced after the US Open 2020. Since then, she has not played any matches on the court but kept in touch with tennis over social media. She became an analyst for ‘Tennis Channel’ and her fans were excited to see this new side of her.

Townsend at the US Open 2022

Taylor Townsend played in the US Open 2022 and reached the doubles finals with her partner Caty McNally. The duo was defeated by the Czech players- Krejcikova and Siniakova by 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Townsend was not too worried about the loss and said, “You get so close, two games away…but this is part of the sport, part of the game. Just continue.”

Serena Williams, on the other hand, had competed and won in the French Open, a little over a year after giving birth. Other than Serena, players like Margaret Court, Evonne Goolagong, and Kim Clijsters have won Grand Slams after becoming mothers. Looking at Taylor’s history and determination, it is safe to say that she is going to try heart and soul to clinch victory in her next tournament.
