The tennis world recently went into a state of deep shock after Chris Evert came with a sad announcement. The American star recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer yet again and will have to undergo chemotherapy. This will also result in her missing the Australian Open, where she brings life to the matches with her explicit commentary.

However, amidst recent updates surrounding Evert’s health, a deeper insight emerges from her earlier statements regarding her ongoing battle against cancer. An interview earlier this year revealed Evert’s fear about the return of cancer anytime. In an interview earlier this year, both Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova expressed the fear of cancer’s return, while shedding light on the ever-present shadow. Fast-forward to today, and unfortunately, Evert’s fear seems to have come to life. Recent news has surfaced which suggests that she’s scheduled to undergo chemotherapy after her cancer makes a return. This will also force her to miss the upcoming Australian Open, an event where she’s typically a commentator.

“It could come back. Look, it could come back. It’s cancer, right? It’s always peripheral,” said Chris Evert while Martina Navratilova agreed to this. She even compared it to the moment when you wake up one morning and play the finals of the Wimbledon.

Evert once said how scary it is not knowing if cancer will come back, and now she’s facing it. Her situation now matches the worries she had before. This pretty much shows how tough it is to battle this disease. Despite wanting to keep going, she will now have to focus on treatment, which means missing out on her usual work.

However, she, at a point, believed that her cancer was now forever gone and was quite sure that the possibility of it coming back was not on the cards.

Evert once believed that she was cancer-free

After being diagnosed with cancer back in the year 2021, she underwent multiple chemotherapy. And it was only back in 2022 that she revealed that she had a 90-95% percent probability that the cancer would not return. Later, in January this year, she finally claimed that she was cancer-free.

After a staggering 6 chemotherapy sessions, she believed that she had beaten the cancer. However, things took a turn and she was suddenly diagnosed with cancer yet again, which led her to go under chemotherapy again. That being said, she would now be hoping for a speedy recovery.

One take at a time

In a world where player rivalries dominate social media conversations, I am someone who prefers to enjoy the skills showcased on the court rather than be involved in feuds over the greatness of players. Right from my early childhood, I have been engrossed by the legendary rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It turned me into a ?Fedal? fan and eventually, when I graduated from college, this fandom created an interest in covering their exploits on the court.
