The Reddit co-founder is now leading his new venture capital organization 776. Unfortunately, it also faced the brunt of the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank. However, with changing times, he also emphasized the role social media has to play in shaping the prevailing dynamics.

He recently opened up about how social media as a whole is a risky place to make unweighed comments. In the podcast, ‘Near Miss: A bank Collapse and a Crisis Averted’ Ohanian stated, “We’re in an age where, especially Twitter, in this case, can be a place for ideas to spread quicker than ever.” Noticing the destructive trend of false news spreading around, Ohanian made sure to call out those people. He stated, “We saw folks posting outright misinformation about some of these banks over the weekend. “

Ohanian has previously talked about the toxic herd mentality that social media promotes. Noting the same thing, he said, “This is a new era for us as an economy, for us figuring out this distribution of media. There’s a responsibility worn by everyone one of us, especially those of us who have platforms of influence.”

Social media has opened the circle of influence to a global level. People can know what their idols believe in with just a single click. So, Ohanian feels that the responsibility lies on such idols who know that they can shape the public’s opinion.

What is the message Ohanian has for the Twitter community?

Detailing what his company did to spread correct information and support, he stated, “We tried so hard to be as careful as we could. Also knowing that what we say has a tremendous impact.” Because the impact reaches hundreds and thousands of other people, bringing those numbers to the attention, he concluded, “It gives us a whole moment to take that stock and do better.”

Both Alexis Ohanian and Williams are quite active on social media platforms. For Ohanian, it’s Twitter, and for Williams, it’s Instagram. And because they know they have a huge following, they both make calculated comments after researching the topic properly.
