Navratilova took to Twitter to remember the legendary career of Bill Russell as she paid her tribute. She said, “RIP Bill Russell, a giant in every sense of the word- athletic, civil rights, altruistic – the whole lot. RIP champ!”

Further, Billie Jean King also shared her emotions on Instagram, saying, “Bill Russell was a once-in-a-generation activist athlete who made all of those around him better both on and off the court. He was the ultimate leader, ultimate team player and the ultimate champion. Rest in peace, Bill. You will be missed.”

Additionally, he was the pillar of the Boston Celtics dynasty, which had won eight straight NBA titles. After his successful playing career, he became the league’s first African-American coach.
