Andy Murray’s Mother, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Others Congratulate Emma Raducanu For SPOTY Award

An 18-year-old who was ranked 150th in the world before the beginning of the US Open came through qualifying and went on to win the Grand Slam in only her second appearance at a Major. She became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam, and she did it without dropping a single set throughout the tournament, for good measure. Emma Raducanu gave the world the most incredible sporting story of 2021 and has been dominating the headlines across the world since.

Recently, she was conferred with the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Notable personalities across the world sent their heartiest congratulations to Emma. From politicians to tennis players to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, all seemed extremely happy for the US Open champ.

Andy Murray’s mother and other notable celebrities send wishes to Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu became the first woman to win the SPOTY Award since Zara Phillips in 2006 for her incredible year. As soon as the decision was announced, people from all over the world sent their congratulations.

Judy Murray, the mother of three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray, took to Twitter and wrote, “Tops off an amazing breakthrough year for @emmaraducanu.” 

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also sent their congratulations. 

Former England and Manchester United footballer Michael Owen was extremely happy with the performance of Raducanu, and commented, “Congratulations to @EmmaRaducanu who thoroughly deserves to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year 2021. Makes me feel very old that she’s the same age as I was waaaaay back in 1998.”

Annabel Croft, a former British tennis player, was pleased to hear the news and tweeted, “Huge congrats to @EmmaRaducanu on winning  @BBCSPOTY ! Fantastic achievement !” 

The official account of Wimbledon also posted a special tweet on the same.
