Anett Kontaveit was one player who kept the hopes of Estonian tennis fans alive. Although she never went far in any majors or masters, she possessed a different kind of grace to her tennis. Sadly, Kontaveit had to hang up the racket as she suffered from a back problem. She retired from the sport after her Wimbledon exit and recently confirmed she has no plans of returning to tennis in any capacity.

The conditions of Kontaveit’s retirement were not what one would expect for a tennis player of her caliber. She left the sport with no ceremony for her and now has no plans of returning.

Anett Kontaveit has no plans of returning to tennis

After losing against Marie Bouzková in round 2 of the Wimbledon, Kontaveit decided to hang up the racket. She stated that she had degenerative back pain, due to which she couldn’t continue playing tennis. She retired from the sport and went on to part take in other ventures. Kontaveit recently conducted a Q&A and with her fans on her Instagram, where she answered their questions.

One user asked her if she had any plans of working as a tennis coach or guide anytime in the future. Kontaveit replied, “Not planning to at the moment. Still finishing my uni and then I’ll see what comes next 🙏”. Kontaveit has shared many great moments with her fans. She has won six titles in her career and has seen many moments of victory and failure.

Although she had to step down from the sport, she has now made her peace with it. But she couldn’t go away from the racket sport without one last hurrah. 

Kontaveit goes out with a bang

Although she didn’t climb to the top of the WTA, Kontaveit couldn’t go away from tennis without one big match. She played bout in her home country with her friend, Ons Jabeur. After her bout with Jabeur ended in the Tunisian tennis player’s win, Kontaveit said that she would look back on tennis tenderly and that she was glad the two were able to pull it off.

She wanted to say goodbye to the sport with her home crowd and finally received her wish. Now, Kontaveit has other aspects of her life to look forward to. As she focuses on finishing her college course, we are likely to see her go big in another field.
