The Hall of Famer coach has been very active on social media lately, giving his thoughts about various players who have developed under his care. Recently, Rick Macci talked about the shot that pumped up Serena’s energy during a match.
Rick Macci shares a memory of Serena Williams
Rick Macci took to Twitter to share a memory of the player. He tweeted, “Serena Williams loved to scream her loudest whenever she hit an overhead as a kid. I have seen that in other players but her scream had a message in there that was another level of get out of here!”

The coach emphasized on her zeal to perform her best on the court and the shot that pushed her to do more. Moreover, the scream that followed after a successful overhead shot also acted as an underlying message was of warning for her opponent while gearing up for her aggressive gameplay.
Serena Williams has continued to follow such on-court practices even after her professional debut on the WTA tour. In the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships, she had to face Harmony Tan of France in the first round. Before the match, Tan expressed her anxiousness about facing the former world no.1, certainly a by-product of the aura that the legendary American garners on the court.

Rick Macci’s role in shaping the careers of the Williams sisters
Rick Macci was the first official coach of the Williams sisters. Till that point, both sisters were training under the aegis of their father, Richard Williams. After their partnerships with Macci, both coaches formed a great friendship and worked diligently to shape the budding tennis stars.

Along with Venus and Serena Williams, Rick Macci has also trained several players who have gone on to become stars on the professional circuit like Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, and Jennifer Capriati.
