Aryna Sabalenka’s Deceased Ex-Boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov’s Ashes Return to Home Country After Cremation in America

After almost a month after the tragic death of Aryna Sabalenka’s boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov’s ashes have been brought back to Belarus. Koltsov, a former NHL ice hockey player, died late on March 18 after allegedly jumping from a resort room’s balcony. Although the incident made headlines in the hockey world, its impact on the tennis community was also visible.

Last month, Koltsov traveled to Miami with Aryna Sabalenka to watch his girlfriend compete in the WTA 1000. However, soon enough, before Sabalenka’s first match against Paula Badosa, the 42-year-old passed away in his hotel room. His death was confirmed by the local Miami police, who found no foul play involved in the death. And, after a month, it has been revealed that Koltsov’s ashes are brought back to Belarus on April 15th.

A farewell to the hockey player also took place in the United States before that. Although the exact date of the cremation has not been revealed, a media statement given on April 3rd confirmed that the cremation has been completed. Whether the private ceremony was attended by Aryna Sabalenka, who later revealed that the two had broken up, or not remains a mystery.

However, soon after the statement about Koltsov’s burial, her girlfriend posted an emotional statement on her Instagram story. “I want to take a moment to say thank you to all my fans for their love and support during this difficult time. Your kind words mean so much; they are with me every day. I am so grateful to you all,” wrote Sabalenka on April 2nd.

Aryna Sabalenka, who is currently busy playing the Stuttgart Open, has previously acknowledged the tragedy on social media. Her statement on the “unthinkable tragedy” resonated with her fans all over the world.

After battling with one of her most difficult phases, Aryna Sabalenka expressed that she “intended to play” the Miami Open. An emotional Sabalenka showed her prowess on the court as she beat her opponent and best friend, Paula Badosa, with a score of 6-4,6-3. However, soon after the victory, she finally took to social media to talk about the tragedy, however briefly.

Three days after her boyfriend’s demise, she took to her Instagram story and posted, “Konstantin’s death is an unthinkable tragedy, and while we were no longer together, my heart is broken.” Saba further requested, “Please respect my privacy and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Aryna Sabalenka received great support from her fans and colleagues after the incident. Although it might be a farewell for her boyfriend, Koltsov’s legacy will live on as a source of inspiration for many sports enthusiasts out there.
