Coming in as a 19-year-old at the Australian Open, the Belarusian beauty Aryna Sabalenka did not steal the show for her sensational gameplay but for her loud grunts on the tennis court. In the first round, she faced home favorite Ashleigh Barty. In a match that ended up in a victory for the Aussie international, what stole the show was Sabalenka’s loud grunts, so much so, that it even started to irritate the audience.

On the other hand, Maria Sharapova, back at Wimbledon in 2015, made her way into the semi-finals of the tournament. However, during her quarter-final victory, her fans had some complaints about the loud grunts that did not let them enjoy the match.

Interestingly, Sharapova’s grunts have reached sounds as loud as 109 dB (Decibel). Her highest recorded grunt was somewhere around 103 dB while the record stands at 109 dB. While this is very high, Aryna Sabalenka has not been able to reach close to this. Her highest recorded grunt was somewhere around 90 dB.

Thus, Sharapova has been a clear winner among the two when it comes to producing loud grunts. While the sounds might be a bit troublesome for the fans, the players use it as a way to relax their muscles during tense encounters.

While addressing the issue of grunting, Sharapova came ahead and said that it is nothing new and that she has always dealt with questions of these kinds during her conferences. “I have nothing to say. It’s nothing new. It’s not a new question,” said Sharapova while addressing the issue of grunting.
