Ashleigh Barty Defends Her Miami Open 2021 Title After Bianca Andreescu Retires in the Championship Battle

It was the night of the finale at the Miami Open 2021 and World No.1 Ashleigh Barty was up against Bianca Andreescu. In an exciting contest, it was Barty who successfully defended her title as she got a walkover over her opponent. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 4-0 when Bianca retired as she couldn’t play.

Even though Bianca Andreescu played pretty well in the tournament, she stood nowhere near the mighty Ashleigh Barty. She tried hard, gained some momentum, but Barty was simply phenomenal.

Set-1: Ashleigh Barty begins her domination

Serving first, Barty easily captured the first game. She carried forward her momentum and broke in the next game too. Interestingly, she won the subsequent game and extended her lead to 3-0.

However, Bianca soon regained her form and after winning the fourth game, she broke in the fifth one to narrow down the margin. However, the Australian didn’t fall apart and broke in the next game to once again take the lead 4-2.

The World No.1 player didn’t take long after this game and won the set with a beautiful forehand winner. She conquered the set 6-3.

Set-2: Bianca Andreescu retires after trailing 0-4

Serving to save the match, Andreescu got off to a poor start. Barty broke in the very first game and gained some early confidence. She took the lead to 2-0 after winning the next game quite comfortably as well. The Australian was just not finished and continued displaying her magnificent skills on the court.

She broke yet again and was now leading 3-0. Bianca had to find a way to come back or it would be over for her soon. Bianca took a medical timeout soon as she was feeling uneasy. When the play resumed, Barty again won the game while serving and was now leading 4-0.

However, Bianca was in some serious pain and was not able to continue to the match. As a result, Barty got a walkover in the finals and successfully defended her Miami Open title.
