The WTA chairman is already facing a lot of heat for his poor decision-making, which created a problem in the tennis world. She stated, “Steve Simon gets paid $1.3 million a year, not including bonuses, I’m sure that doesn’t include his expenses, et cetera.” On the other hand, the marketing budget of the WTA is just a little more than 1 million dollars. Even after receiving a wholesale salary, Simon was not able to deliver the right work to the players.

As well, there is a huge difference between the marketing budget and Simon’s income that will definitely leave tennis players in shock. She added, “When your CEO makes more than the marketing budget does you better hope that this product markets itself, which as we know, with only eight weeks (Cancun venue announced 8 weeks before the event), it cannot. So, it’s just it’s just sort of like a bad decision over a bad decision over a bad decision.”

The 59-time Grand Slam champion, in a conversation with broadcaster Amazon Prime, talked about how this might be the right time for a change. As the fumes at the WTA don’t seem to slow down, Simon might not be able to keep his position after all the chaos created at the WTA Finals.

She said, “For me personally, this being a woman’s association and being involved for such a long time from the beginning, we’ve only had two women at the head of it.” She highlighted that this time, when we get a new leader it should be a woman, who will understand the story better. In addition, she stated that for Simon to stay in the job might be a little difficult as everyone is pointing fingers at him.
