Madison Keys is a Grand Slam champion – finally. In an intense final at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday, she held her nerves and denied Aryna Sabalenka a third straight AO title. She etched her name on the trophy with a score line of 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Of course, she was happy after pulling off a sensational win against the Word No.1. While giving an emotional speech, Keys was hardly able to resist her tears. On a lighter note, though, she did manage to pull her husband’s legs while praising him.
After receiving the winner’s trophy, Keys was elated, and why not? Just like she stunned former World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinal, she managed to conquer Sabalenka as well and didn’t give her the chance to make a comeback eventually. Giving the Belarusian a shoutout, she said, “Arena unbelievable playing I’m glad I finally got you back.” Referring to their previous meeting in 2023’s US Open SF round where Sabalenka triumphed over her, Keys further added, “But unbelievable tennis. You’re always so tough to play and we always have the craziest matches, so congratulations to you and your team for another amazing Grand Slam.”
Keys then shifted her attention to her husband and coach Bjorn Fratangelo. He was standing behind, looking at her. Not to mention he was extremely emotional as well after her victory. But Keys figured out a way to troll him hilariously. While admiring his support and contribution to her win, she revealed it was an amazing experience to be able to win the trophy “with my husband, who was dazed and confused over there”

Basically, Keys couldn’t see Fratangelo clearly. This confusion led to an unintentionally funny moment. It was Sabalenka, standing near her, who then reminded her that he was standing on the left side. To this, Keys said, “Now I’m dazed and confused,” before wrapping her speech. But she didn’t forget to share a lovely moment with him right after her emphatic win at Rod Laver Arena.

When Madison Keys shared a loving gesture with husband and coach Bjorn Fratangelo
The moment Madison Keys hit the forehand winner to seal the contest, she put both her hands on her head in disbelief. Of course, it was a special moment for which she had longed for a decade. But it’s now a reality. Right after the victory in a decider, she walked up to her husband and trainer Bjorn Fratangelo. In tears, she just hugged him as they both shared a kiss.
Bjorn Fratangelo and Keys married last November after seven years of dating. However, he had already joined her as a coach in 2023 before they tied the knot. A few days ago, Keys had revealed what’s it like to have Bjorn by her side during matches and in the training sessions as a coach. “The best part (of being coached by her husband) is that we actually get to see each other,” she said. Fratangelo has been a former tennis player as well. In 2016, he achieved a career-best ranking of No.99 before retiring in August 2023.

Madison Keys finally wins a Grand Slam—was it her talent or her husband's coaching magic?
Have an interesting take?
Reflecting on their past, Keys added, “When we started dating, he was also playing, and we were not on the same schedule, so we would not spend a whole lot of time together. So it’s great that we actually get to spend time together.” However, she didn’t leave the chance to take a dig at her husband. For what? Revealing the “not-so-great” aspect of him being her coach, she said, jokingly, that she has to “tell him that he was right a lot of the time,” which is “not super fun” for her.
But it seems Fratangelo being her trainer is working wonders for Keys. Just two months after marrying him, she’s become a Grand Slam champion with her consistent performances and her husband’s guidance. What else do you need in life?
