Simona Halep has had a dream start to the 2022 season. The Romanian won the Melbourne Summer Set 1 in the run-up to the Australian Open. Further, looking to break back into the top 10 rankings, the former World Number 1 had a dominating start to the opening Grand Slam of the season.

She breezed into the 4th round without dropping a set. Halep was all smiles after winning her third-round match earlier today. After her match, she had some kind words for her former coach.

What did Simona Halep say?

During the press conference after her third-round victory, Halep was asked about what makes Darren Cahill such a special coach. The 30-year-old replied, “I think he’s very special and the way he talks, the way he always gives you advice, I think it’s very special. When he really trusts in the player, I think he sends that to the player and you feel much more confident and much more like safe on court.”

Further, she added, “He has been the most important person for my career. With him, I could achieve the big titles…  He has been a really important person for my whole life…  I see that he has success also with Amanda Anisimova.now.”

Asked about her performance in the third round, the Romanian said, “It was a great match. I think I played good tennis. I’m pleased with the way I played.”
