Harmony Tan, the 107th ranked Frenchwoman, didn’t have an ideal end to the Australian Open 2022. She was up against the 15th seed from Ukraine, Elina Svitolina in the second round. However, she had to retire midway in the third set owing to an injury.

What happened to Harmony Tan at Australian Open 2022?

The 24-year-old was in her second-round match this morning at the Margaret Court Arena. However, she suffered a calf injury while in the deciding set. Subsequently, the helpers took the French player to the players’ room in a wheelchair.

The unseeded Frenchwoman was taking on her mighty opponent in the second round. She put in a good fight before eventually retiring. In a match that lasted for 2 hours and 7 minutes, Elina Svitolina took the first set 6-3, while Harmony Tan won the second set 7-5. The match eventually went to the deciding set where Tan was trailing 5-1 before pulling out.

In the match, Harmony made as many as seven double-faults as opposed to her opponent’s  two. Also, her first serve percentage was a mere 44% while Svitolina managed 62% first serves.

Earlier, the Frenchwoman had defeated Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in the first round in straight sets. She was looking good to proceed deep in the tournament. However, she was facing an issue with her calf which made matters worse in the third set of her round 2 match.
