Tomljanovic took to Instagram to post an update about her health. She said, “Hello everyone, unfortunately, I won’t be competing for a couple of weeks… was very much looking forward to the next hard court events. I had to get some uterine fibroids removed and will be watching from home while healing. Will be back soon.”
Earlier this year, Tomljanovic bowed out of her home Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open in the second round. While she was expected to dig deep in the tournament, the campaign ended with a loss against Jelena Ostapenko. Furthermore, her recent health update means she will be away from tennis for at least a couple of weeks, as she revealed.
Fibroids are muscular tumors that grow in the walls of the uterus. Its removal will take time to heal and Tomljanovic will miss some important tournaments like the Qatar Open and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. While she languishes outside the top 200 of the WTA rankings, the Australian star will always be remembered for ending Serena Williams’ career.
