The famous tennis sensation Garbiñe Muguruza has been conspicuously absent from the courts for more than a year, which has left fans and sports enthusiasts wondering about her whereabouts and future plans. In a recent update, the two-time Grand Slam champion revealed in a post that she and her fiancé, Arthur Borges, have been enjoying a well-earned vacation in Mauritius.

She had previously revealed that she has ‘no intention’ of coming back anytime soon on her professional path. However, Muguruza’s social media posts have done the job of bridging the gap between her and her fans.

Garbiñe Muguruza has frequently shared certain moments of her life outside of tennis on social media during her break from the game. Her most recent post from Mauritius gives followers a beautiful peek into her vacation activities, featuring gorgeous scenery, beautiful beaches, and precious time spent with her fiancé, Arthur Borges. However, amid all this, she has not forgotten her love for tennis. This was evident as one picture revealed a tennis court where she was standing with a racquet in her hand.

Another picture showed her smiling while leaning against a tree at a beach, and another showed her taking a nap in the sun. She captioned the post as “Thank you Mauritius,” displaying her immense love for the place.

Besides demonstrating Garbiñe Muguruza’s commitment to relaxation, her choice to take a holiday in Mauritius also reflects her lifelong passion for traveling. When asked about the reason behind her break, she previously said, “I was just so tired of the pressure and being judged by the media and experts every week. So, this break is exactly what my body and mind needed. I’m genuinely loving every moment of it.”

Muguruza, who is well known for her intense rivalry on the court, highlights the value of balance in an athlete’s life by choosing to prioritize her leisure time. It is very clear that she is having a great time away from tennis and has no fixed time for when she will be back on the court.

When will Muguruza come back to tennis?

Although Garbiñe Muguruza made it to the WTA Finals in 2021, she only managed to win 12 matches the next season and found it difficult to go back to her peak. In January 2023, she lost to Linda Noskova in straight sets, dropping her record to 0-4 overall for the year. Since then, she has been on a hiatus from tennis. She announced in April of last year that she would be continuing her leave, and now that nearly a year has passed, there doesn’t appear to be a clear conclusion in sight.

“Right now, I have no intention. My plan is to just sleep, rest, spend time with loved ones, and make up for lost time. I’m not really thinking beyond what I’m doing today, tomorrow, and this week, you know?” – Garbiñe Muguruza said last year during the interview.
