‘Be as Curvy as Possible’ – Venus Williams Says Beauty Standards for Women Are Unrealistic in Today’s Age

Venus Williams has had an incredible tennis career filled with many glorious moments. During her illustrious career, she has gone on to win seven Grand Slam singles titles, including five at Wimbledon. Apart from her exploits in tennis, Venus is also a fashion icon. She has a fashion brand named EleVen by Venus Williams. Recently, she talked about the beauty standards for women in today’s day and age.

Further, she formed a formidable partnership with her younger sister, Serena Williams. Together, they won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, becoming one of the most successful teams in this format.

Venus Williams compares fashion standards over the years

During an interview, Venus was asked about how the beauty standards are changing for women. Replying to this question, she said, “I think that the standard of beauty right now is more inclusive, so that’s wonderful, but at the same time there’s tons of pressure. I think the standard of beauty 20, 30 years ago was like, be as thin as possible.”

Further, she went on to add, “And now the standard of beauty is kind of shifted more to like be as curvy as possible. And now there’s pressure to augment yourself to fit into the standard somehow. And that’s not realistic.”

Recently, Venus played in this year’s US Open. However, her campaign ended in the first round, losing against Alison Van Uytvanck. She also lost in the opening round in women’s doubles with Serena Williams, losing in the opening round.

Venus’ tribute to Roger Federer

The American legend had special words for the Swiss Maestro following his retirement. She took to Instagram and said, “The greatest ever. Miss you already @rogerfederer #greatest #goat.” Additionally, she also shared a picture of them holding their respective Wimbledon trophies.

It was an emotional month of September for tennis fans as it marked the end of the careers of two of the greatest players of all time, Serena Williams and Roger Federer. The former retired after the US Open while Federer bid adieu to tennis after playing doubles with Rafael Nadal at the 2022 Laver Cup.
