Former WTA star opens up about Collins’s delayed retirement plans

Following Collins’s announcement to continue playing tennis, former American star Coco Vandeweghe joined the celebration on Tennis Channel’s Inside In Podcast. Expressing her surprise at Collins’ change of heart regarding retirement. Ultimately, Vandeweghe quickly accepted the news and shared her support for Collins’ decision.

Vandeweghe recounted her reaction when she learned about Collins’ decision while attending a charity event in New Mexico. “I was like, ‘What in the world am I reading?’ So yes, I was surprised, and that’s her. I mean, she keeps things under wraps.” Collins, who battles endometriosis, took to Instagram on October 17 to declare, “The DANIMAL story has not reached its conclusion. I will be back on tour in 2025.” The announcement came amid confusion over her name appearing for the 2025 United Cup. To which, Vandeweghe believed that retracting retirement plans is acceptable if a player is ready to compete again. Additionally, she emphasized that happiness is key in any athlete’s career.
