‘Being a Mom Is One of My Biggest Dreams’- Danielle Collins Lays Bare Raw Emotions After Shock Retirement Decision

Earlier this year, Danielle Collins announced a shocking update: retirement. The American tennis star revealed that she’ll call time on her career after the end of this season. Although just 30, Collins is battling endometriosis, which is a condition where the tissue grows outside the uterus. This resulted in Collins’ early retirement plans. Another major reason associated with it is motherhood.
Following her professional commitments, Collins aims to spend quality time with her family. Additionally, she is also dreaming about motherhood and growing her family. Recently, she explained her priorities about it and how she aims to take on the other side of life.

Earlier this week, Collins appeared in an interview with Good Morning America. During the conversation there, the interviewer asked Collins if becoming a mom was something that she looked forward to. Replying to the question, the American star said, “Being a mom is one of my biggest dreams outside the court and people ask about retirement and this is not something I can wait much.”
"This is my personal choice and this is so much more to do than just tennis and my career."

Collins has suffered from painful endometriosis disease for a long time. In 2021, she even had surgery to remove a tennis ball-sized cyst. Despite suffering from pain, the American star is enjoying one of the best seasons of her tennis career this year. She won back-to-back titles at the Miami Open and the Charleston Open. Despite her encouraging run of late, Collins is hell-bent on retirement.

Meanwhile, her retirement decision has come as a shock to her fellow players and fans. While fans have expressed their sadness about Collins’ early retirement, her fellow players are persuading her to change her decision. Even her compatriot, Sloane Stephens, wants Collins to reconsider her retirement decision.

Collins’s decision to end her career has become a talking point in the town. Many players are asked to comment about it during interviews. At the Charleston Open, Stephens was quizzed about Collins calling an end to her career after this year.

Stephens appealed to Collins and urged her to not leave tennis soon. She said, “And then I’m just going to try to convince her not to retire because you kind of got to ride the wave, right? So, I’m like, you have like another year of like playing where you’re going to make a lot of money, like, don’t give it up too soon. I don’t know, I’m going to have that talk with her.”
Nonetheless, Collins has enough time to have one last laugh before retirement. With form by her side, she’ll go all guns blazing to win her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open.
